Earthquake in Turkey: Where can I donate?

 

The consequences of the unprecedented 7.8 earthquakes that devastated eastern Turkey and western Syria cannot be understated.Since Sunday night, thousands have been confirmed dead, and many on the ground expect the figure to rise as bodies are pulled from the mountains of rubble left behind by the disaster.

Where can I donate?

This guide lists all safe and confirmed organizations accepting donations.


AKUT - Leader in Search and Rescue

AKUT is described as the number one search and rescue organization in Turkey.
The organization was founded in 1994, and in 2011 AKUT became the first Turkish member of the United Nations International Search and Rescue Advisory Group.
Those outside of Turkey can send donations through AKUT’s website.

Union of Medicare Care and Relief Organizations

The Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations (UOSSM) was established in 2012 to coordinate better the actions of “humanitarian, non-governmental, and medical organizations from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and Turkey.”

The Union has also been quick to begin targeting relief for victims of this catastrophic earthquake.

Donations to the UOSSM in US Dollars can be made through their website.

Turkish Red Crescent (Türk Kızılay)

The Turkish Red Crescent has more than 240 staff and hundreds of volunteers in the disaster region providing mobile kitchen and catering services to the region, according to a press release. They are also sending over tents, blankets and beds.

The organization is asking people to donate blood as they continue to ship blood from their existing supplies throughout the day. The Red Crescent provided their bank details for donations in a tweet, but you can also donate here.

The Red Cross Red Crescent is working to deliver emergency relief and to get help to those impacted by the earthquakes as quickly as possible.
